Bob Hummer, President

Bob founded Sporting Valley Turf Farms in 1969 with a 5 acre plot on his parents potato farm in Manheim, PA. He started Hummer Turfgrass Systems, Inc. in 1972 as a specialty sports field contractor. He is a graduate of Penn State University in Agronomy and Turfgrass Management. He started his turf career on Lancaster area golf courses before founding Sporting Valley. He was a Sergeant 1st Class in the Army National Guard. He has been very active in numerous trade organizations, serving on the board of the trustees of the Turfgrass Producers International two times, PA Turfgrass Council, and the Cultivated Sod Growers Assocation of New Jersey. Always an innovator, Bob uses the latest technological university research, and his own designs and ideas to keep Sporting Valley and Hummer at the forefront of the industry. Bob has four children, Jon, Chris, Anton, and Megan.
Matt Wimer, Director of Field Operations

A native of Lancaster County, Matt graduated from the University of Delaware in 2003 with a double major in plant science and landscape horticulture and a minor in plant biology. He was a four year letter winner as a catcher for the Blue Hens baseball team. He also worked on the athletic fields while at Delaware. After college Matt worked at Saucon Valley Country Club and Bent Creek Country Club as Assistent Superintendent. Matt brings both the knowledge of turf and the experience of a division one athlete to each project. This allows him to not only look at the field from a turf managers point of view but also from that of a former athlete. Matt also works as a youth and high school baseball coach.
